Cebu Pacific loses P1.18 billion in Q1 of 2020

Piso Fare Promo - The COVID19 pandemic has caused the low cost airline, Cebu Pacific a net loss of about Php 1.18 billion in the 1st Quarter of the year 2020. That is around 135% sharp drop in earnings. This could be due to flight suspension for both their domestic and international routes.

On wednesday, April 29, the company has posted a disclosure of the said net loss amounting to Php 1.18 billion to the Philippine Stock Exchange or PSE. The percentage drop is lower than Php 3.36 billion they earned a revenue on the same period being compared to the previous year.

According to their submitted net income for the current quarter, it only amounted to Php 15.9 billion. It is lower than Php 21.18 billion or 24.9% compared to the previous year. They have been asking help from the Philippine government as they are near to the point of bankruptcy.

"The overall decline in revenues was brought about by the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak which started with cancellation of flights to China, Hong Kong, Macau, and South Korea in varying periods during the quarter due to the imposition of travel restrictions," Cebu Air said.

In history, the low cost airline usually would earn much during the summer season from March to May and on the longest holiday months, December to January. However, with the present situation of the corona virus pandemic, they have been affected and has affected their revenues.
